15 Principles for Workplace Improvement
WIP # 1:
Put your heart and soul into your work.
If that becomes your biggest daily challenge,
find other work.
find other work.
WIP # 2:
There are three ingredients that guarantee success
and productivity in the workplace:
Attention, Attention, Attention.
1. Pay attention to your work. Stay alert. Check the details.
Go for quality first not quantity.
2. Pay attention to your environment. Be supportive.
Be flexible. Notice when things are changing.
Change with them if necessary.
And most importantly:
And most importantly:
3. Pay close attention to yourself. What kind of person
are you? Are you reliable? Do you do as your promised?
Are you responsive? Do you do what you are asked?
Are you building up or tearing down? There is no middle road on this one.
WIP # 3:
Don't rest on what you know. Use what you know.
Give it everything you've got, then rest.
Or maybe you prefer the older adage:
"It's not what you know, but how you use it."
WIP # 4:
A new workplace environment can be very intimidating...remember?
Allow and expect new employees to show their strengths immediately.
Encourage their assertiveness. When they make a mistake,
Encourage their assertiveness. When they make a mistake,
see it as an opportunity to teach, not terrorize.
WIP # 5:
We teach by what we do and what we allow.
As a leader, if you want to teach confidence and trust,
you have to Deliver it! Demonstrate it! Demand it!
WIP # 6:
There is a time and place for everything.
The workplace is for work. The time is for working.
But things don't have to be so rigid, just limit the time you spend goofing off and learn to use your inside voices.
WIP # 7:
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
Find the weakest link and pull it out,
or make it as strong as the others.
WIP # 8:
While you are making your list of things not to steal
from the company, place TIME at the top. Time is most
valuable because you can't give it back or replace it.
WIP # 9:
Privileges extended by the company are given as a convenience. It is expected that the conveniences will yield assets for the company. But when you abuse them,
they only produce liabilities and you, the abuser,
are the biggest liability of all.
WIP # 10:
As human beings, our emotions will play a part in the decisions we make. A mature decision, one that demonstrates control of those emotions, will yield a win-win solution or at least fewer casualties.
WIP # 11:
As a manager, you are expected to teach and to direct.
Your effectiveness depends on knowing when
and how much of each is required.
WIP # 12:
An organized group with a great idea can invoke positive and necessary changes in the workplace. The goal is the more productive workplace, not the group.
WIP # 13:
Experience is not always your best teacher, but the most suitable substitute is usually somone else that has it.
WIP # 14:
A confidant at work can be a valuable ally.
Use the time you spend together building each other up,
not tearing others down.
WIP # 15:
When searching for necessary changes, don't forget to search within yourself.
Not only is it the easiest place to start,
Not only is it the easiest place to start,
it is often the place where it is most needed.
